The Northern Territory Government is planning to upgrade the road between Cahills Crossing on the East Alligator River and Gunbalanya.

This road passes very close to many of the significant rock art sites in the Red Lily Lagoon Area and we have been concerned about the dust from vehicles on this road directly impacting these sites. In conjunction with UCLA internship student Tom McClintock, we have undertaken research documenting this impact.

We are arguing for a better outcome to protect rock art along this stretch of road when the road upgrade plans are finalised in the near future.
