We are always looking for opportunities to connect our traditional knowledge with how we look after country. We have therefore undertaken a project to record and map place names for different parts of country and use these place names as the basis for prioritising, structuring and informing ranger work.

To do this, our rangers worked with Traditional owners to collect place names and details about how they should be looked after. With assistance from Environmental Systems Solutions, we mapped these places and entered details about them into our cultural and environmental databases, which the rangers can access to understand how their work should be prioritised.

We are continuing to add to this valuable cultural database, to make sure that we collect as much knowledge about country and that this important knowledge feeds into the work of our Rangers.
